I am a life-long Waxahachie resident and 5th generation Ellis County resident. I’m currently the Chief Revenue Officer at the Waxahachie Sun. I serve as secretary/treasurer, worship leader and Wednesday night bible study leader at Water Street Baptist Church.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I am married to a wonderful man and have four children and two grandchildren.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I have always been interested in some type of career within the journalism industry.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
A couple my favorite places to eat is Farm Luck Soda Fountain and Pop’s Burger Stand.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I have lived here all my life. After a long few years commuting to Addison and Carrollton for work, I was fortunate to land a job at the Waxahachie Daily Light and then advanced my career to the Waxahachie Sun in a management position.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
There are so many great people here in the community. I can’t choose just one. My advice to anyone living here or moving here – get out and meet people. Waxahachie is full of people who are treasures, you’ve just got to get out and get plugged in.
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
My favorite movie – I actually have two – Tombstone and Dirty Dancing. I watch a ton of reality TV – Survivor and the Amazing Race are my two favorites but, I like Hell’s Kitchen, too.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Be yourself. Be authentic. If people don’t like you for who you are, that’s their loss. Don’t be afraid to join in and make a difference. Somewhere. Anywhere in your community.
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
When I think nostalgia, my mind immediately goes to Oma’s Jiffy Burger. I was raised on those delicious burgers. If anyone in the community hasn’t been by there – don’t wait another second. You’ll be glad you stopped in!
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
This is a hard question. Since I am a hard core music fan, I would say Alice Cooper. Behind his stage persona lies a genius. I would love to sit and talk with him. I would probably take him to Oma’s. Gotta give him a taste of home!
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
My favorite thing about Waxahachie is that, even though we are growing rapidly, there are still places to go that provide a quiet, small town atmosphere.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
In the next 5 to 10 years, I see myself continuing to serve our community through my job as well as my church. I hope to have a few more grandchildren that I can spoil.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I think most of my family knows me pretty well. Possibly one thing would be that my “dream job” when I was growing up was to go to Las Vegas and work in a casino as some type of card game dealer.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
I usually don’t give a 10 on anything – there’s always room for improvement. The only thing that can’t be improved would be the love of Jesus.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My boss, Scott Brooks, is an inspiration. He always has a kind word, an encouraging word. He always seems to know what to say, just when I need it most. Another great encourager to me is Kevin Strength. He is the former mayor of Waxahachie and the current Chamber of Commerce President. He’s an inspiration to many, not just myself.
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Comfort, Security, Family
